Henry
A reverse mortgage allows him to live "high on the hog" and still pass on something to his daughter...
Octogenarian Henry Miller loves life, and particularly enjoys living it to the fullest, as evidenced by the 80-mile bike ride he took to celebrate his 80th birthday, his ever-increasing frequent flyer mileage, and his membership in four gourmet food and wine organizations. But without the extra income from the reverse mortgage on his home of 35 years, Henry wouldn't be able to afford his passion for the good life. "I like living high on the hog," rumbled the debonair baritone, " but my tastes were more expensive than I could afford with just my pension and Social Security. I like to travel and enjoy the Arts, and the wine organizations I belong to do special dinners at fine restaurants almost every month. "
So, after his daughter Linda suggested the idea to him, Henry called Financial Freedom and spoke with Director of Special Projects Beverly Mirtle about getting a reverse mortgage on his South Bay/Los Angeles County area home. The program Henry decided on was the Financial Freedom loan with the Hartford Annuity. "I paid off the existing mortgages and some credit cards. And, I now have a guaranteed income for the rest of my lifetime," said Henry, who was also concerned about preserving as much equity in the home as he could for his daughter. "The Financial Freedom program allows me to save something for Linda and enjoy my retirement too."
A retired patent draftsman from Hughes Aircraft, Henry still keeps his hand in by taking independent contract work on occasion. "I'm working on a contract now. The extra income doesn't hurt and I've always enjoyed what I do. I also paint and make jewelry, among other things. I like to stay active."
Henry will be traveling to Spain and Portugal for the 35th Wine Congress in June, jaunting off to Ireland in September and Prague in October. When he's not globe trotting, Henry enjoys dancing, "any kind except that stuff where you dance three feet away from your partner," classical music, art, his dogs - two Staffordshire Bull Terriers - and keeping fit. Henry works out at the gym three times a week and has recently resumed one of his favorite physical activities, cycling, starting out with a mere 30 mile ride along the bike paths near the beach. "I had to stop for a while due to the El Nino's. When you're older, you've got to start back into exercise slowly," he quipped.
