Winifred Sabine, 77, a sharp retired accountant and tax preparer from the San Diego County area, looked into reverse mortgages for several months before deciding on a loan from Financial Freedom. "We looked at programs from other companies, but I liked the one from Financial Freedom the best," Winifred confided. Her son, a senior research engineer, also checked it out. "My family is 100% behind this. They all said, 'go for it!' so I did."
Winifred and her husband Charles share their home with two other seniors - their cats Holly (a Blue Mink Tonkinese) and Mei-Ling (a Seal-Point Siamese), both 15 years old, or 105 in cat years. The Sabines built their home 25 years ago and do not want to move. This is my dream house," Winifred said. "The cats wouldn't be able to handle a move and the only way they're getting ME out of this house is in a box!"
Homeowner Representative Monte Rose helped the Sabines through the paperwork, getting them a loan which paid off their existing first trust deed with cash left over, which they invested in mutual funds for income and security.
"We're both in good health, now," stressed Winifred, who characterizes herself as perky and full of the dickens. "I walk two miles a day, usually. But I broke my ankle recently coming down the stairs. You just never know what can happen."
